How long does it take you to get to work?

I remember reading on this forum, a wise poster said something like, 'life rule number 628 - live close to work, travel for leisure'.

So how long does it take you to get to work?

Before I retired 6 years ago it would take me 15 minutes to drive to work , these days it takes around 45minits on a good day . On the way there was a set of traffic lights & a round about to go through , the council took out the round about & put in another set of lights that don't sink with the 1st set . You wait for 6 changes of the lights to get through the 1st set if you are lucky . The problem is the vehicles coming out of side street ( industrial estate) drive into the intersection & block it & they can be there for 2 changes of lights. I have asked the council to put a red light camera on the intersection to book these vehicles but they say it is not a black spot so does not need it.

On foot about 35 minutes , about ten if I am foolish enough to cycle , a helmet is useless against a moronic driver , or if I drive about eight minutes. Wife is about the same. Train isn't much of an option as the return fare is for me is more than combined fuel costs. Besides a walk clears the mind and gets the blood flowing. It was a wise choice moving to the inner burbs.

About an easy 13 minutes if I get a good run of green traffic lights which mostly happens. Back in the day pre the traffic lights and roundabouts it was a bit less. Given the amount of multi nationals driving around here now I doubt you would survive the trip if there were not red lights and roundabouts to encourage them to at least ease up. As for "stop" signs, I don't think that word exists in some dialects. In a recent incident one drove past five 80 kph restriction signs at 121 kph and T-Boned a car, killing both occupants, and got five and a half years free accommodation at Her Majesty's B&B.

14 minutes, unless the wife was late getting ready, in which case I let her drive and she can do it in 10 mins.
