    Who Cares Hodgo?

I presented my research instrument and model to the local Vietnam Veteran's Association, also to a former Returned Military Veteran's Health research centre in Brisbane. Both sources stated the my research has application and merit amongst veterans regarding the quality of their life. So Hodgo "who cares"? As the grandson of a Rat of Tobruk who came home a different person than the person who left for war - I do.

    Kind Regards

    Hello Tom,

Indexicality of the triadic selves within Autism: Constructing a holistic "desirable future"

Initially, my research was targeted at people with Asperger's Syndrome however it became apparent that there were frequent incidences of PTSD within the older members of the participant group. The same area of the brain the amygdala is affected in Asperger's that shows up as the same morphology in people such as returned Military veterans who experience PTSD. Issues such as high frequency of anxiety and depression are the same within people with Aspergers in my sample and veterans with PTSD. Both groups experience stigma - self stigma and lapse into resignation. From which they withdraw from society.

My disciplines are Linguistic Turn influenced Cultural Neuroscience, communications and adult vocational teaching. I have researched how a person's sense of identity can be de-constructed and reconstructed. I found the majority of language use was on the side of de-construction of their own identity through the influence of what Kitwood (1997) described as Malignant Social Psychology. Or Wolfensberger (1998) described as "wounds".

Basically my research model has been designated as having some merit in assisting people who have had their identity shattered by a life changing event. Being able to recognise "good days" where things can be achieved and "bad days" where they have to take care of themselves. So that people can independently learn to self monitor so the number of good days may increase.

    That's about it.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

Hi Lionel, after 5 mins reading google (and no, I would never normally quote google to an academic), would I be accurate i saying that the first discipline is very broadly the effect of sayings/phrases on the culturally shaped expectations of a certain population?

I know a lot of people will benefit from this particularly in the autistic community. A sense of self can be easily lost whilst pretending to be normal.

    Tom.

    G'day Tom,

Luckily I am not an academic - I am an applied researcher, ex-parks and gardens - Amenity Horticulture tradie.

My approach while based on cultural studies is more from the linguistic turn - it goes beyond the Google definition you cited. I utilise a Social Constructionism-Realism perspective within cultural studies that considers that the "self" is a linguistic phenomenon and meaning is formed through language.

Since you are "Googling" my main influences Language wise are: Rom Harre, it is meant to have a French accent over the "e" in Harre but this software does not like it and shows it when saved a ?- mark ...; Tom Kitwood, Wittgenstein, Luria and Vygotsky. Person Centred Planning wise: John, O'Brien, Connie Lyle O'Brien, and Jack Pearpoint, plus Marsha Forest.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel

    Hello All,

    For those who care

I just finished what I hope is my last re-write of Chapter 4.

Now to move forward and similarly re-write the remaining chapters until they too are in their final draft stage. Oh there are 9 chapters.

    Kind Regards
    Lionel
