Then they put in a left turn lane westbound which activates when the cross traffic is on green , but with no inhibition on cars wanting to turn left in 200Metres. So they stop all people left turning while they wait for the green.

Timers! They let you know how long between the next green or red.. and turn left is a standard everywhere..

It's from a game called "Cities: Skylines". Apparently you can build pretty much anything you can imagine.

I still thought the traffic flow study was interesting even though it is only a game.

I am purposefully resisting the urge to have a play with it as it is the kind of thing I would lose many days in.

I once needed to model a half flight staircase for a small reno in my house. Downloaded Sketchup, knocked up the model and before I knew it I was measuring all internal dimensions of the entire building. Once that was done I moved on to the outside. Ended up with full 3D representation of the house with walk throughs etc. Was great fun but a huge time waster.
    Cheers,

    Hi,
Somewhere I saw traffic lights flash the orange for a second or two before dropping from red to green.
    Cheers

Timers are great. The best. Stops people whingeing about the delay because they are busily watching the countdown.

When I moved to Melbourne in 1971, there were still a few of those timers with the coloured sectors and pointers. In addition, most traffic lights showed orange with the read for a few seconds before changing green, giving you time to get into gear.

But there were also some other interesting peculiarities, including several roads with long stretches of three lanes - one lane each way and overtaking (or head on collisions) in the middle.

These have all disappeared, but the right turn from the left lane (hook turn) remains.
