We inherited it,then decided to donate it to the Qld museum.

Still have a full grown lioness skin though,i bet it is one of the very few or the only one in the country.

Well it may be now Paul, but 40 years ago it probably wasn't as my in laws brought with them a load of East African Artifacts & Skins from many & varied animals that they had collected. during their time in Mogadishu, Kenya etc

The Lion skin was unpacked one day by somebody & not put back & spent the rest of it's sorry days waterlogged & ruined on the concrete floor of an outside shed.

There were also Cheetah Skins used as antimacassars on lounge chairs, Curved knives & Scabbards from the deserts, A walking stick Sword, Ivory boxes & bead chains a carved 3' wooden Chain without a join, various Baskets & real Persian Rugs of various sizes. A carved genuine Sandalwood Chest (none of your modern machined crap but the real McCoy} which fortunately now resides in Chez Des..There were many other objects but they have faded from my memory now.

Unfortunately the thieving Wharfies got at some of the Tea Chest & stole a heap of stuff before it was delivered to their new home.

Typical of my MiL who loved giving stuff away to make friends all that remains now is the Camphor Wood chest.

She was obviously taken advantage of by many & gave it all away but she never looked after anything anyway. ie. Easy Come Easy Go.

Oh yes, the other tangible item that is left is my FiL's WW2 Medal Bar complete with his MBE & his misc Service Medals from when he was a Boy Soldier in the Royal Artillery of about 12 or 14 I think it was. Found late on in a hole in the wall in an old stone built house, before he died.

Paul, maybe you family valued stuff they had, I hope so.

    Ces't la vie.

We lost a lot of stuff as well.

But also still have a lot,way to much to list here.
    Including pure gold jewellery.
The lion skin survived because it was tanned correctly, but out of the others that were not a do remember three huge Viper skins that deteriorated and had to be thrown out.

We had our old concrete main tank cleaned recently by a guy with a tanker. He pumped the water out into the tanker. Then he got into the main tank and scrubbed the inside and ran out the crud. Then the water was put through a filter and refilled the tank.
Made a big difference. I don't think the tank had ever been cleaned. We also fitted an extra filter on the main supply line, plus a fine filter at the sink.
I get claustrophobic, so no way was I getting in the tank to clean it.
Our new tanks are still clean and I regularly empty the filters. We also boil our drinking water.

Also recently, but what amazed me the guys wear no form of PFD around their neck I posed the question "What if one of you stumbles, faints has a seizure etc in mid tank etc? Do you just drown before your mate discovers you & tries to get you out of the manhole" I suspect they thought that could not, would not happen. I said well there is a first time for everything & just because you're not in a boat doesn't mean to say you won't cark it.

I honestly believe they haven't even thought about it although one would think WH&S would like to have a word.

Not in my tank then fellas.

Probably have never done an enclosed space course and aren't qualified. There's a fair bit in it.

First one in the tank passes out and sinks, boss goes in after him / her and does same. Wouldn't be the first time.

This is why everyone needs to have the contractor insurance cover on their H & C in case something goes wrong with one of these clowns who is not 'insured' one way or the other. Doesn't cost much.

You can be personally liable in certain instances with these situations.

Would really ruin your full enjoyment of the corona years.

Dad used to send us into the tanks to clean them when we were kids - guess he didn’t like the lack of PPE the professionals used, or maybe it was just easier to squeeze us through the man holes.... 😇
If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.

Very real possibility. In 1985, HMAS Stalwart lost 3 in similar circumstances.
