Its the same as those people that buy a house in a suburb near, let's say Airport West, and then complain about the airplane noise!
Tullamarine was built well away from Melbourne deliberately to avoid that, yet the authorities release land nearby for residential. What the heck?

Yep, I can recall visiting the Airport site yonks ago. Bare bones then..
The same here with RAAF Edinburgh. Originally wheat fields I believe, Housing goes in & residents complain about Aircraft noise but apparently they do have a wide approach funnel which would help, but eventually the a/c has to come over the boundary fence so someone is going to cop the noise.
Little did they realise that A/C movements would be greater than when they moved in. Deeeer.
As well as the RAAF, there is a General Aviation Aerodrome (Parafield) close by, so on a weekend it seems to be constant noise from A/c in that area. Speaking of Edinburgh, some years ago when the B727s were active there was a photo in the newspaper of about 7 or 8 of them lined up waiting for Fog to lift & they'd be off to West Beach Airport some 20km away. They had been diverted & included a/c from Perth, Melb, Sydney & God knows where else.
