Old man's first computer had a 20MB hard drive. Sales guy said "that's all you'll ever need".

That od equipment took me down memory lane, Thought you lot might as well come with me.

The company that sold the equipment in this vid below gave me my first real job as a field engineer. As a part of the probationary period I had to go to the US for an 9 week training course to learn how to service and repair all the various kinds of equipment to chip level and patch software using octal editing. Even though they were never going to sell these units in Australia as they were already superceded, I still had to pass my exam on on it. Every week there was an exam on a different piece of equipment, pass mark was 80% You were allowed to fail one, after that you lost your job and was sent home - I did keep my job. They were an excellent company and are still in operation today (in the US) but under another name.

    Anyway, check out this beast.

    Cheers,

    Sean

If you are of similar age to me and a little bit of a nerd like me, you're sure to love this guys invention - the Floppotron - he uses old computer parts to play 8 bit music.

Here's a beauty - he has plenty more...

And this one is great too.

If you need to contact me please email homestarrunnerau@gmail.com - thanks - Gav.
