    What is not commonly known is that Jimmy Stewart was actually a bomber pilot in the US Air Force and flew many combat missions in WWII collecting a few medals on the way. He flew most bombers in the USAF's inventory post WWII too, including the B-36. He retired a Brigadier General. Plenty of info out there about his military service for those interested.
