Nope. I don’t use the cloud and the iPad has been pruned of apps as much as possible. In fact, the only apps I use are email, YouTube occasionally, and Chrome to look at a few LR fora. I tend to use the iPhone for mail and web browsing because it’s so much quicker than the iPad (i use Chrome on the phone not Tapatalk).
It's either a REALLY old iPad or there is some conflict happening, probably on the network connection. Modern iPads are super quick, far quicker than most laptops.

iPad Mini II. It seems to have slowed over the years almost as if Apple have deliberately done it to try to force me to update.

Apple paid out a lot a while back ( well, a lot in my terms, Apple probably didn't give a **** ) for something like that, so I doubt it. Can you tell us what OS it's running, how you back it up (if you do ), and why you expect an 8 or more year old machine to keep up. You're lucky it's Apple. No other tablet of that age is likely to still be running...
BTW, I still have an iPad of that vintage. And an iPhone. They both still work, but they have NO hope of keeping up.
