I'd be interested in the physics of flying at ninety degrees to horizontal, that might require JD's expertise.
You will notice that in all the scenes where it is flying with the wings vertical, and not descending, the fuselage is angled with the nose pointing a little above the horizontal. This both gives a vertical vector component to the propeller thrust, but probably more importantly, gives a positive angle of attack for the parts of the airframe you see in side view, mainly the fuselage and interplane struts, acting as lifting devices. The fin and rudder will not be significant contributors to this as they are behind the centre of gravity, and hence will be pushing down to provide this positive angle of attack.

Sorry, it is much more involved than that. The model is based on a Pitts Special aerobatic aircraft. It's power to weight ratio is much more than 1, and it is quite capable of "hanging on the prop" through power alone. In "knife edge" flight where the wings are at 90 degrees to any relative airflow, the huge slab sided fuselage does provide lift. It also has huge tail plane fin combined with a very big authoritative rudder. It is very "short coupled" in respect to rudder control, so it will also contribute to lift. Yes, there are complex thrust vectors at play, but that is only part of the whole package.

Also not mentioned; the "ground effect" when he brings it into what is near enough to a hover, is very much in evidence as seen by the smoke pattern as it hits the ground. Almost a helicopter!

This is what happens to Toyotas when they get stuck on the beach and the tide comes in.
