Ah,those were the days. Also, every now and then,we used to find a carpet snake curled up in the one we had when i was a kid.Grab it by the tail, into a pillow case quick knot in the end,all good.
Would have been lumpy to sleep on

And they usually had not the nicest smell....

Until we dropped them off somewhere the next day,at least a few K's away.

Spotlessly clean snakes? That is a new one. We really do have a modern setup come ablution times Paul, with a fancy schmancy do dad which diverts excess power from the panels to the HWS.

I think it may even be called a Diverter.

    Really?

You are living the high life.

Yes, well, nah, that was the shower we had prolly 50yrs ago,in the Foresters hut on Fraser Island.
Lived there for a while, the old man was working there,no power, tank water, wood cooker, then one day the kero fridge arrived.Sort of cooled in winter, but summer it ran half out of puff.More chance of the butter(or it could have been marg) staying half solid in a container floating in the lake.

You have mentioned living on Fraser previously & it always sounds like an idyllic/learning/healthy existence.

A part of your life that you won't get back but hell, what memories eh?

You gave all that up to be a bloody Fridgie? What are you, some sort of fruitcake?
I recall SA Scouts having some sort of Jamboree there yonks ago & it sounded wonderful.
