Who would have thought hook turns originated in Sydney?

Yes but it is stoopid Victorians who kept them.

If you spend any time in Melbourne’s CBD ( thankfully a thing of my past) you will see that hook turns make perfect sense. It’s only the muppets who don’t know how to use them that don’t.

What Tins said. Makes perfect sense in the Melbourne CBD which is a grid-based system. I used to drive a lot in the city (I drove armoured cars during my Uni years and lived in Carlton) and the hook turns allows the free flow of trams (and trams are a good thing) without impeding traffic flow. Never understood why people had a problem with them.
