    No, I'm sure it's true!

Ask anybody who doesn't own a Range Rover or Land Rover.

Has to be True, it was on Face thing.

    Looks like i was lucky

I was 600K from the nearest dealer,on the farm, when the "Cant find smart key" fault started to appear intermittently.

Luckily it sort of half rectified itself until i got back home.

It was a fault LR knew about and actually fixed it while you waited.

He claims a friend of his actually read that in the RR manual.

I assume there really is some reference to 500km that either he or his friend has been able to misinterpret in order to perpetuate the myth about LR reliability.

I have tried searching online versions of owner's handbooks to try to find the information that he has twisted to suit his prejudices, but have found nothing.

I would very much like to show him how ridiculous his claim is. Can anyone point me to something in the RR handbook that could be misinterpreted to come up with his claim that owners should not drive RRs more than 500km from a dealer?
G`day , may depend which RR he`s talking about .

The early AU L322 handbook has no reference to 500 anything not even pages that i`ve seen as yet .

The American L322 handbook as linked has 500 miles as a breaking in period , it also says heavy brake application should be avoided in the first 500 miles the only other reference to 500 is the brake fluid must be rated at a minimum 500F .

I couldn't give two ****s what other poeple think about pretty much anything ( it sure does drive a certain wife crazy ... "But what will the neighbours/people/etc think" .... Of course my attitude to what "other people" think is always ).

I say spread these sort of rumours. If land rover weren't unreliable **** ... I wouldn't be able to afford one .... If Citroens weren't unreliable poofter cars ... I wouldn't be able to afford one ... I love "unreliable" stuff... pretty much always

My 3YO RR that had only travelled 18K kms dropped $100K because RRs are too unreliable to keep when out of warranty.

I was prepared to be charitable and consider the possibility that this bloke's mate had just misread something in the handbook.

It is beginning to look as if I will have to break the news to this bloke that his mate simply made up this nonsense.

No sensible person would believe that the handbook actually said what he claimed, but I thought he might just have poor comprehension skills. Maybe he just has a vivid imagination and a readiness to believe the most unlikely things.

But Allan, would you recommend a friend to buy a Land Rover (not New), Series II or III, an early model (pre 2000) Disco, Defender, Range Rover that had no Mechanical aptitude at all (the friend that is), I wouldn't, you're right though the dick that made that statement is not worth worrying about, as they say "you can't educate idiots" Regards Frank.
