They look a lot like 40/60 bofors ammunition boxes - but is over 40 years since I used them - well some sort of large calibre ammunition anyway.
Hi all - the father in law found three of these in a clearing sale. Of course he bought them but doesn't know what they are. The story is that they were used to store salted mutton in ww2. Does anyone know if this is true? Or if not what they are and what they were used for?
The lids kinda lock down and seal and they look to be insulated. No outlets at the base though so not for hot water.

That's EXACTLY what they are. I have a few back home in the states.
Well, what I use mine for is for storing fencing bits and pieces in the back of the ute!

I have a similar container that is round and roughly 1m long , I assume for some kind of large shell.
