    Sydney M7 open

Took the trip to Cousin John's today on the newly opened M7. Usually a 50 minute drive now only 30 minutes 8O and free until late January.

I reckon it is the best thing since sliced bread was invented unlike the cross city tunnel

But if you are not going to use it regularly and don't have an e-tag - it is is very expensive - I travel from Canberra to Newcastle a fair bit but not enough to get an e-tag.

Because there is no cash I have to set up a monthly account before I travel - the admin fee is between $1.50 (via internet) and $3.30 (via phone)

The actual toll is $5.98 (full length) plus if you don't have an e-tag there is a further admin fee of 75c per trip.

So for me, a trip on the M7 will cost about $9 (between $8.23 - $10.03 - depending on the admin fee).

And of course if you find yourself on the M7 without making arrangements the cost is $15.98

Hopefully everyone else will use the M7 while I am still on the Cumberland Highway.

I will use the M7 this weekend though - cause it will be free.

Very strange Tony, my Defenders got a lift and a roof rack & I don't have any problems, even with the 2nd spare wheel added to the height.

When the tolls come in i willl only use it one way a day, When i work morning shift ill go the old way at 4:00am and come home on m7 at midday. Which will cost $30 a week, i guestamate a saving of $10 fuel saving so i think its worth it.

I think how you get charged truck fee is very unfair and i would be sending some letters in.

I think tolls should be capped at $2.50 for cars and $5 for trucks, i.e anything over 3.5t or something like that. With rising fuel prices the last thing australians need is more **** to pay for whilst travelling. If John Howard claims there isnt anything he can do about rising fuel costs then surely lowering tolls is one way he can help the hard working australian. I dont give a **** how good a road is, paying $9 for something i pay taxes to pay for is a load of crap. Matt
