On our honeymoon (last Century...) Child-Bride and I were holidaying in Kalbarri, several hours north of Perth, Fishing/Tourist town.
One evening we walked into the local Beer-Garden...under a shady tree...and the more Beautiful half walked straight through a massive (Orb?) web.
There was much squealing and 'EEeeks'... Spider was the size of a dinner plate (Ok, poetic licence, it looked like one) and dangled from an outstretched arm.
My finest moment... took the bungee with annoyed spider attached - made loud and obsequious apologies to said Monster for destroying her web, knocking her around and damages to her hearing from the Wife's screaming .... - and transferred her to the bushes.
We got a round of applause...
EDIT:- Do spiders have ears ? This one seemed stunned by the noise... Understandable.
Yep and sounding like a herd of elephants even when not on the bikes scaring all the critters away. Either that or they just didn't go far enough south as in the Yarri or Nglang Boodja huts.
Best critter around Collie was the racehorse goanna. I now understand how they got that name.Biggest critter was the white tipped brush tail possum that tried to squeeze between the spokes one night (to try and get to the food) even though it would have weighed about 20kg.
Still yet to see any snakes despite all the warnings.
