Exactly, I have a cable directly from the alternator output to a dual fused relay. Makes a big difference.

after adding relays and before you upgrade the globes, just check what your headlight reflector is made out of. If it's polycarbonate/plastic (a lot are) it may not cope with 100w or more of heat.
In our Patrol I use 60/55 +50 globes with good success (plastic headlight reflector)
The Defender has Cibie 'Z' headlights, and has had 130/90w, and currently has 100/90w H4 globes.

Hi There,
3+ years ago, had a Pirahna Superloom fitted to the S1 disco...($175 ) difference noticeable immediately!!....then put narva + 50 globes in.....absolute chalk and cheese, as previously the lights were like candles.
All up cost $200 and a pleasure to drive at night
.....As for the blue bulbs, i tried those first and were a liability in wet weather, everything was gloomy in the rain and not as much fill IMHO,
Did some research on alternatives for the Narva's and the Phillips Vision + range came up lots....i think they're around $40 a pair. hope this helps.
cheers,
Wayne.

Headlight upgrade.
I made up my own new wiring loom from the relay (Twin New Era) to the lights. Cost around $50.00 for the relay, headlight plugs and heavy wire. About 2 hours to make up. You can just unplug the whole lot and plug in the standard plugs if need be (after putting back in the standard wattage globes). Why pay $200 when you can do it yourself for about 1/4 of the cost. Makes a big difference. I run 80/110 watt PIAA globes which so far have proven to be very reliable compared with many other types. Suggest you use good quality headlight inserts as well such as Hella or Cibie or perhaps Narva.
By the way, I have been looking for a set of Marchal Ampilux or Cibie Biode inserts if anyone knows of a good set lying around unwanted.

Well i bought 2 upgraded looms to put on the Defender and Disco. i did the one of the Defender and it is great.
i still run 55/60 globes and am very happy with the result.
i looked at the disco the otherday and for the driving we do in it i'm leaving it stock and not upgrading it as the light is ok.
The looms cost me $110 each and are very good quality. huge relays, huge wires and bake-a-lite globe connectors as the plastic melt when you run 90/110 bulbs.
it is so easy to install that my missus helped me and she did 90% of it.
it has a wire that goes to the alternator, and then you just run it to both headlights and then one plug, plugs into your orig loom to feed the relays with the High and Low Beam.
Dead easy.
PM me and i'll put you onto the guy i got them from or you can buy my spare one.
Steve
