    It doesn't matter what category we place ourselves in. It's the perception of the world at large which determines what we are.

    Personally I would put myself in the 'Sensible as I can be but only when absolutely necessary' category.

    Why are shipping containers measured in imperial for length and height but metric for width ?

    Just like tyres. Width is measured in metric and rim diameter in imperial

    Shipping containers were invented by an American Trucker, so originally all the dimensions were Imperial and really still are. 8'6" is the width of a truck tray so that is the width of a Shipping Container. To be pedantic 2.6 Meters is not as accurate as 8 ft 6 in.
