Thread: "Weapons" in vehicles

Hi,
I think as long as it is not accessible as a weapon from the driver's seat and is packed away with other camping tools indicating it is there for a legitimate reason for it being in the vehicle, you should be ok.
Legitimate reason I think is the key word for keeping out of trouble.

In Malaysia I typically leave a lot of my gear in the vehicle between jungle outings - stuff like recovery gear and first aid kits etc. This includes items like a small hatchet, shovel, and a "parang". Most of it behind the rear seat of my dual cab ute.

I took my truck for a Vicroads brake test a couple of weeks ago, The bloke in the drivers seat called out the window to me "nice bayonet" , I forgot it was stowed in a pouch next to the handbrake lever.

Suggest you leave the machete at home. Someone might get the wrong idea. The cops are VERY jumpy about weapons in vehicles, after some vicious attacks. You could find yourself spending a very long time trying to justify its presence in your vehicle. It's not worth the hassle, I think.

I think Mick is right, you'll also find a different attitude in different parts of the country and differing laws in different states.

Unless you have a really good reason... i wouldn't carry it.
