There's plenty (about 450 or so) OKA's out there. The most common variants being the twin cab and bus body types. As I said earlier the bodies are very easy to swap over/mix and match as they are modular and just bolt on. The bus body has built in ROPS for extra protection as it's design was originally mine spec. The twin cab is great for an 'off road' family tourer as it's a six seater with the rear seats easily reconfigured for one to four seats as required and as pointed out easily set up as kid size beds. With a camper on the back you're all set to go.

Every OKA out there is differently set up. It's amazing the amount of variations all doing essentially the same thing.

Cost varies greatly between vehicles and can be quite daunting when considering 'how much'. A basic OKA XT or LT in fair to good condition with NO camper setup should set you back somewhere in the $20K - $30K range. A really good OKA with upgraded suspension and drive train with LSD's both ends with a real spiffy camper and looking a million dollars can set you back around $75K - $85K. Any more IMO, "tell 'em they're dreaming". Just like buying a second hand Defender really. When you consider what people are asking for second hand Defenders the OKA gives really good value for money and it makes a superb off road family tourer.

The typical XT/LT OKA is fitted with a 4 litre (non intercooled/non wastegated) turbo Perkins Phaser 110 engine coupled to a Turner/Spicer all synchro five speed gearbox connected via either a NP205 or Rockwell transfer case to a Dana 70 rear diff (makes a Ford 9" look like a toy) and a Dana 60 front diff (same as LR Salisbury which is a license built metric Dana 60). A few LT's have a HD150 transfer case as used in the NT OKA, a monster of a TC so called because it weighs 150 Kg.
Suspension is a mixture of very long leaves, Aeon rubbers and twin gas filled shocks on each corner which gives a comfortable and reliable ride over all terrain. The long springs give superb dampening. It is unknown for OKA shocks to fail, even in the most adverse conditions because of this natural dampening. Very strong, very reliable.

Four wheel disc brakes, hydraulic over hydraulic (hydraboost) with manual clutch on the XT, hydraulic on the LT and power steering off the same gear driven pump so no vacuum pump needed. Best of all the only electronics are in the quality VDO speedo, tacho and the radio.

A definite backward step. The factory fitted Perkins 110 with its indestructable Turner/Spicer gearbox (I've never even heard of one breaking) and excellent NP205 transfer case is a way better setup. If you want to go to that much trouble replace the non wastegated turbo with a wastegated one (at a comfortable 16psi) and fit an intercooler and you can end up with 100HP at the rear wheels and over 600 ft lbs of torque and all in a very reliable no mod plate required package.

Cheapies are out there though and can be picked up for under $10K depending what you want. One thing to look out for when buying a cheapie is chassis cracks especially in old flogged out tour buses.

From what I understand, the weak point in the Oka drive train are the axles.
So, Andy, you're paying $16k for the two. Let's say you pay $2k shipping. You sell one for $20k and you give one to me. You've made $2k profit. What a bargain!

The phaser is a great engine, recently fitted a 4l80e and a pootrol transfer case to an OKA and transformed it to a fantastic drive.

Thanks all, it was coming down in buckets yesterday so didn't stop for photos .
Will get onto the owner for more info.

    I presume 2 will fit in a 40'?

For this to work for me i would need a JV partner to go 50/50 and get one each. I purchase and get to Australia, they refurbish.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.

Are these the two remaining OKA's that were owned by Placer Dome ?

If you can provide the last 3 digits of the VIN's I can probably find you the vehicles history.

One OKA will fit in a 20' container so I assume two will fit in a 40', but to do so the roof racks (if fitted) will need to be removed as will the bumper/bullbar and any rear wheel carrier (if fitted). It's a tight squeeze but doable.

    Photo's would be good.

Two OKA's in poor condition were sold recently in NSW for around $20K the pair, one was sold in Vic recently (in bits but good restorable condition) for around $10K. A bus (ex SES) and in excellent condition was sold last year at auction in WA for just over $20K (a real bargain). A single cab in good condition with Hiab and tailgate loader was recently sold in Vic at auction for well under $20K. So there's bargains out there.

As I said, the going rate for a good basic OKA dual cab in fair condition is IMO around the $20-30K mark.

    OKA vehicles
Make Model Year Model № Chassis № Engine Engine №
    OKA LT Jan-96 6N544B3MVA190368 190368 Perkins 711211A
    OKA LT May-97 6N544B3MVA220427 228427 Perkins 7138384A
    . .

The better of the two with less work required has 450klm on the clock, the second I can’t get a reading as the clock has been changed with a digital unit that is not operational.

Oka club have authenticated the vehicles via a buyer in Australia that previously expressed interest.

Let me know if you need anything specifically in picture and I can arrange.us

Much as i am tempted, not really feasible for me to buy into this, but can assist if anyone(s) are serious.
As far as we know needs a battery to fire it up.
So far 2 * OKA $16,000, Fumigation $ 500, Waiting for Freight quote,
Needs a battery to fire it up, this i can witness for you.
They would have had a hard life, but the sellers are honest.
