AT RESTI received a letter from the ATO advising that a tax credit has been for 2015/16 finacial year, and the ATO owes me interest on the amount also , it seems my annual tax return was completed before their data had caught up and applied the tax I paid. Then reading the letter further they say as I am not a Australian for Tax purposes, the interest had been withheld.
I ring them to ask what is going on, as i have been an Australain tax payer all my life and speaking to the ATO rep, I find out that the letter I got is a standard scripted letter and the person sending it out was suppose to copy and paste the relevant sections on the letter.
I wonder how many people get the wrong info from government depts if they use cut and paste.

I wonder too. I was thinking that they might have a Robot doing that job.
If you are not very close to average for your job description, it takes aim and begins to mumble "Exterminate exterminate."
But I do like the way they pay interest on the money they owe you.

AT RESTNot A scam, I rang the ATO via the correct phone number all the options and the voice Id to confirm who I was, then spoke to a woman who did sound like an aboringinal womann ( like you hear on out back docos ) and sounded like she had emphysema, (Eevo alarm bells ring yet?) she was very helpful. No it wasn't a scam . The ATO charges interest on over due tax but they also do the right thing and pay you interest on money they borrowed from you.Originally Posted by Eevo

SubscriberI don't have a myGov account either so they wouldn't be able to get hold of me like that. My accountant said the most likely way they would contact me is through him but as a PAYG employee there generally wouldn't be any reason to unless I was being audited, so that made sense.

My accountant is a very optimistic bloke. Apparently quite a few of his clients have been asked questions lately.

AT RESTI just checked my MYGOV account and the tax I over paid for that quarter has been credited to this quarters tax due, and they have paid me interest also. note you have to declare the generous interest payment as income in this years return LOL.
One thing about MYGOV, I tried to claim some medical bills, and was unable to do it, I went into medicare office and was told it can't be done on a computer you have to download and app to your phone to take pics of the bills and send them to them for processing via your app, doesn't mention this on the web site on My GoV though.
