I've found it's usually no good abusing the overseas ones 'cause they can't understand what your saying anyway. I just hang up.

What annoys me more is these guys who ring me at work and say things like " just wanted to thank you for placing your ad in the police/ses/firefighters (it changes and is always emergency services or volunteer services) newsletter and we'd like to confirm your address to send the bill to". There isn't any publication and I've never agreed to anything. If I try and argue, they get nasty. If I mention Consumer Affairs, they hang up!! :x

got a mate that was a bouncer in the Valley thru the 70s (in Bris) his way of calming annoying patrons was " I'm gona break your jaw, your arms and then your legs, then I, m gona drive you to hospital, and admit you, then I've got your details and in 3 months I'm gona come back and break em all again' dunno if that would work any more? But I like the story.

Not sure about Queensland - but in Vic and NSW there are laws in place that Telemarketers have to abide by - there are time restrictions on when they can call.

If you ask the name of the company they are calling from (The call centre company)rather than the company that they are representing - they Have to tell you. if you ask where your contact details came from again they have to tell youand if you request that your name be removed from future call data - they are legally obligated to to do so.

It's a pain in the @rse going through this stuff.... but can improve the number of calls - if the calls you are getting are regularly coming from one source - complain loud at your telco.... if they do nothing go to the telecomunications ombudsman.

Hopefully the "opt out "list that is being talked about by the federal goverment will happen.... we'll see.

errr..... it's ok guys.... I make their computers work..... not their phones..

Get an answering machine to vet the calls, if they are that sort of call they just hang up and eventually dont call again as the word gets around that that particular number has an answering machine.

Hi Richard... sorry but I doubt that will work... most call centres now use things called predictive diallers - basically they are a computer that dials the calls from a database - if it gets an answering machine it will hangup - and return the number to the database to be called again later ( that is where a LOT of hangup calls come from)

The database will originally come from a company that makes it's living selling data (ie. peoples details)... Acxiom and Dun and Bradstreet are two that come to mind...

The call centres do not feed their failed data back to these originating companies... so the answering machine system will filter calls - BUT it will not get you off the original lists....

The calls usually come in around 6 - 8 pm, I vet all my calls now because of the telemarketers and there is vey few compared to what there used to be .
