I always let them know that I am busy at the moment and ask them for their Home number so that I can give them a call later on. Funny though, I mainly get the same answer "Sorry sir I can't give you my home number" to which I reply "Why not don't you like people annoying you at home either!!!"

When all Else fails let them know your number is an unlisted Private number and you will be forwarding the matter on to your Attorneys, and have them seek compensation for you invasion of privacy.

    No more telemarketing calls

P.s. Threatening another person is illegal in most states.

Just promise to hurt them, don't recall anyone ever being charged for promising behaviour. Just be sure to follow though or they'll get your for breach of contract

There isn't any publication and I've never agreed to anything. If I try and argue, they get nasty. If I mention Consumer Affairs, they hang up!! :x
At work I just state that this is a classified emergency response line and ask what the threat is and do they require emediate imediate troop deployment or deployment standbye. If they stammer I cut them off with who are you and where did you get this number from and state they are now being traced and recorded for police response to a terrorist hoax. Works every time
I only get calls from friends or about my job at work now.

Oh yeah, dont want to hear any racisty type stuff, just a solution, also be interested in the fact if I have broken the law by threatening someone .
Yes, it is illegal in Victoria to threaten, I dont know about Qld though[/b][/quote]

In NSW sort of depends on the threat - technically me saying to my neighbour while i walk at him with a pitch fork " mate im gonna run you through you old *****" is common assault as i have the ability to carry out the threat, if i were on the other side of a river however, with no way to get to my neighbour on the other side with no bridges or boat nearby then its most likely not an offence.

Telling some telemarketer that you are gonna kill him - a bloke who you dont know nor do you know where he is doesnt really constitue an offence under the NSW Crimes Act. I cant however say the same for the telecommunications act, there are a number of excellent federal offences there !

    Hi Guys
We have a calling number phone.
Here is a twist on the story.
I got the "unavailable" no the other day,I had 3 or 4 pints of homebrew under the belt and felt like getting stuck into one of these operators, got the usual pause, then a recorded message with an indian accent"please hold the line sir all our sales executives are busy at the moment"
    I then hungup.
For the Godbotherers,at our last place we were routinely bothered,I spotted a mum and dad with their 14yo(or so) daughter comming up the steps.I called out to my visiting Bro to answer the door for me,as he started to get their usual banter I yelled out"Invite them in Bro,Id love to pluck their daughter"
They couldnt leave quick enough,AND NEVER RETURNED.

    Hi all,
My Grandmother keeps a whistle on a cord near the phone.
Heard it works cause of the automatic amplification on the exchange.
She has used it I'm told.

Funny this topic has been met with a myriad of ways beat/prevent the calls.
I haven't had one in years, for occupational reasons I have always had an unlisted number. The last time I got unsolicited telemarketing calls was when i built my last house in sydney and got the phone connected , to guess who Telstra. Got a stack of them, changed the number still unlisted they started again, changed it again with optus and they stopped, I have been with aapt for years now and not even a sniff of an indian accent. My relatives all get them, I would love to speak to a person from an overseas call centre you can have so much fun with them , ask about the weather, how did they get their job, thank them for ringing. invite them over, ask them their phone number and address so you can send them a card.
Anyway the common denominator with these calls appears to be telstra connected customers.

I love the ,'godbotherers too' as I live in a rural location they turn up occasionaly, its so funny usually on a saturday a whole family arrives, usually its been wet to moist day and my sons dog has been running around ( well he always is running around outside. chasing the heifers and birds a sort of mobile alarm) , he likes jumping up on people, picture this a man in a white shirt and tie, the holy book and briefcase in his hand, with red dirt/mud paw marks all over it the same with his kids pristine clothing. I don't open the screen door, let them have their say thank them, tell them I am not interested as I am a buddhist and shut the door, while they are trying to get away from the dog. I don't know why but i haven;t seen them for a while.

I'm pretty sure that if you divert your phone then you pay for the onward cost of the call, not the caller.
