i had a freind that told me once

that he had a salesman (windows i think)

that kept asking if he could come round to show him the great line in windows.........my friend said in the end ok....the salesman said ok great can i come round at 6 my friend said sure you can come around at 6.....

at 6 o'clock the salesman after banging on his door rang him on his mobile and said hi we had a meeting at 6.....my friend said to him no we didn't you asked if you could come round at 6 i said of course but i NEVER said i was going to be there...........

needless to say the salesman was very angry as he had travelled an hour to get to my friends house.................guess what he never called asking for a meeting again

Even though I prefer a listed number, a few weeks ago I requested a new home phone number and agreed to the extra couple of dollars a month Telstra charge for it to be unlisted. I was just totally fed up with the constant unsolicited calls. Problem fixed – not bloody likely.
I started getting the computer generated calls where there is no one on the line, and then the telemarketing started again. I did my nana when I demanded to know how the caller got my number and the answer was “from the white pages”. Bull****! I screamed. This is a new unlisted number so don’t bloody call it again :x (and hung up).
The subject came up with a friend who also changed to an unlisted number with Telstra. He asked how the caller got his number and was told they purchase all their phone numbers from Telstra. That’s probably bull too, but I wouldn’t be surprised if Telstra charge extra for the unlisted number and then sell it to whoever wants to pay for it 8O .

I am glad i am not the only one who gets harrassed by these clowns. the Southern Phone Company keeps ringing me and no matter how rude or abbusive i get (i was nice the first 50 times) they keep ringing. But the thing that gets me, is when they hang up on you half way through your i'm not interested f#$k of speil. Matt

Yep, thats just plain rude.

There was a segment on ACA a while back on the overseas call centres, particularly in india. When the operators get the job they undertake training on how to talk 'stralian' and get given a false Aussie name, like Bob or Barry or something like that. Matt

In all these posts JohnE mentions the telstra connection, which I'm on and I get them, got another todday about 1.30pm, which is interesting (Hi john), and the obvious is great, an answering machine, I have one somewhere in the technological pile, must put it back into action. However, the optus mobile phone gets junk mail sms stuff.

Can't wait for the laws to be passed re these types of calls. Apparently, from what I've read, one third of USA home fones are unlisted fdue to this issue. But even that can't beat a rolling random dailer.
