Giday Pod ,you are spot on . The Bollards lagoon Stn north boundary is the all weather east / west haul rd that runs from Moomba, east into Queensland.The southern half , you use to be able to pay / travel with permit from the Bollards Lagoon homestead . Havent heard any chatter about any one doing that for years now .

As far as I'm aware it's closed to traffic and has been for quite some time.

Information on The Bore Track from the District Ranger
The Bore Track North and South will remain open on the Innamincka Regional Reserve. Bore Track South will be a dead end track and will require people to turn back towards Innamincka as once the Bore Track hits the Bollards Lagoon Station boundary, things have changed.
I have personally communicated with Bollards Lagoon to clear up differing visitor opinions about the use of the Bore Track. They have decided to close the Bore Track section that runs over Bollards Lagoon for several reasons, most of which have stemmed from irresponsible visitor use. They acknowledge that many tourists act responsibly, but others leave gates open, leave rubbish behind, have stolen property, plus have verbally abused Bollards Lagoon staff. Bollards Lagoon have also requested people not to camp and light fires on their property due to recent high fire risk over the last two years which have fallen on deaf ears. Plus there are insurance and liability issues if someone has an accident using this track.
Once again, it is the stupidity of the irresponsible few that have ruined it for the rest. Unfortunately it seems that these irresponsible people will never respect the land on which they travel, and it's infrastructure and people, whether it is on public or private land, and will continue to cause more and more places and access tracks to be closed to visitors into the future. I Hope this shines some light on the situation.

Thanks for those replies. We came down through there in about 2012 and headed east along that same mining road and then down through Toona Gate. We're thinking of doing the same again this time around so Bollards Lagoon access shouldn't be a problem.
We tried to get back up to Coongie Lakes in 2015 but got to Innamincka only to find that all the tracks were closed due to rain. Seems they are all closed again right now but as there's no rain in the forecast I'm hoping things might have dried up over the next week or so...if not, we might head up to Currawinya N.P. instead, looks like it might be worth a look.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, the situation will only get worse, as more and more people get access to ever increasingly capable cars. Sadly, the lack of respect for the bush seems to stem from a lack of respect generally, as you can easily see by the staggering amount of rubbish that gets dumped out of cars pretty much everywhere.

Blokes like John Rooth are voices in the wilderness. Unlock Australia tries, but nothing will happen until we, that is, the general population, prove we have changed.

I dunno, I have often wondered if some sort of 'bond' system might work. Maybe a bond of, say, $10,000, payable on granting of a permit, and refundable, with a few deductions for costs, on an inspection of what was or wasn't left behind for others to do/undo. It may be hard to administer, but it would weed out the ****heads. Sure, $10K would weed out others not so stupid as well, but perhaps that could be amortised across a group in a tag along tour.

Only an idea, but it's sad when decent folk are denied things due to the actions of an increasing number of idiots.

Yep, like so many areas of life, 90% of any group give the rest a bad name.
