Thread: facebook is listening to you....

I lived in Singapore for 5 years and you knew the government was listen to your conversations and vetting emails. But we all knew it happened, Facebook and I'm sure google and apple is a different story altogether, but what can we do to stop it?

can't say we weren't warned....

By listening, I don't mean, listening in to your actual phone calls, I mean listening to your private conversations, via the microphone on your phone...

Facebook has admitted it some months ago I think. When you have Facebook messenger running it listens and uses keywords to target advertising at you.

Same as Apple and Google do.

so with apple and google. you can do that thing on your phone where you talk to it by saying "hey siri" or "hey google"

for this to work, your microphone needs to be on and continually monitoring what you say.


so when you say: purple monkey dishwasher, the mic records that and sends it off to google/apple who analyse it, and it goes, no, wrong words
when you say: hey siri: the mic records that and sends it off to google/apple who analyse it, and it goes, hey, the owner is talking to me, and it responds.

Fair call :-) I'm not a big fan of internet conspiracies lol.

So let me say, I have some strong 'anecdotal' evidence and some of that is personal experience and personal friends who are internet marketers who have tuned to ads being served to them after directly talking about specific things.

It's possible that some people are part of control groups to test new strategies by FB, but its also known that FB does have access to anyones microphone if they have messenger or FB app on their phone.
