Having owned a Paj, D1 and D2, I'd go D1. $20k would buy the best D1 available with plenty left over for repair and mods.
I found the D1 superior in comfort to the D2, the extra space is negligable, admittedly my D2 is 7 seats as opposed to 5 in the D1.
Both are vastly more comfortable than the Mitzy.

Is the territory a good option? I only ask..as I have a mate looking for something under 10k to casually tow a medium van. His mechanic recommended Hyundai Terracan and Kia Sorrento...should I put it to him that a territory would be an option??
We have a 2006 Toyota Hilux twin cab TD that we bought new and it has done over 200,000ks without ANY problems whatsoever, The thing is pretty much bullet proof and these can now be had for under $20,000.
Nowhere near as comfortable as My V8 D2 But it uses less juice and is quite a capable 4WD offroad/onroad as well.

How heavy is a 4M van? Territory is rated to 2700Kg. If towing slowly up a long steep incline transmission overheating maybe a problem. I had to help a bloke driving a territory whose transmission overheated going up Clyde Mountain. Transmission cooler or vehicle with low range would solve that.

I am looking for a new daily drive that I can use to move my trailers about, go on quick trips to the city and long, comfortable interstate drives. I am so impressed with John's 2006 AWD Territory Ghia (his cousin's husband has one too) that I am looking around for one as well. A turbo petrol one for me. Expecting to pay around $13,000.
Ticks all the boxes.
Why did they stop making them?
