My BIL has an 18' van with one of these as the tug and has had no problems. Had a V6 Commodore before that and reckons the Territory is far better all round.

In John's, three adults and luggage, Melb/Syd/Melb, 10l/100km.

A work colleague was getting 20l/100km from his. He was first off at the lights, led all the way, hard on the brake at the next red.
    Typical city driver.

    Ticks all the boxes.

Why did they stop making them?
the AWD drive units scrub ball joints on a regular basis but apart from that are supposedly very nice

the diesel units are the 2.7ltr similar to D3's i believe.

the 4.0l barra ford engine is a great bit of kit, i regularly get 630+ klms from 53ltrs of juice, in my BA falcon.

If you go down the Territory path then a diesel can be had easily for that money. Unless you specifically need/want 4WD then the RWDs are cheaper to run and purchase.

Buy a dirt cheap 94 Disco 300TDi and Auto, rebuild engine and Auto box to new, fit 4.11 gearing and ARB diffs with Maxi-drive axles, CV's and drive flanges,
this way you KNOW what you got and for around 20K, Regards Frank.

    Budget $20K
Has to cope with towing a 4m van
crewed by 2 adults and a couple of small dogs

    The quest:

    a touring rig
mainly onroad but able to cope with light offroad when needed

what would you think is the ideal rig to fit the bill ?[/QUOTE]

    nah

    it's just a hypothetical

if one existed, at a reasonable price, a 4bd1 two door hard top would be my vehicle of choice but prices are utterly stupid at the moment IMHO

so it only follows that one would tend to look at other options i would have thought
