I was born in Portugal.
Came to Australia in 1989 .
I have a Portuguese and Australian passport.
My mrs is Aussie as is my daughter.
Just out of curiosity, and not meaning to be in any way political, in light of the current controversy it would be interesting, in a social search way, to know who on AULRO is a dual citizen and where they originated, if they care to share, just to get an idea of our background as a group, don't you think?
There are a lot of Australians who were born overseas or at least one parents was.
The Australian Census of Population and Housing is a rich source of data about Australians and their cultural characteristics. In 2011, the Census revealed that over a quarter (26%) of Australia's population was born overseas and a further one fifth (20%) had at least one overseas-born parent. Throughout the 100 years since the first National Census in 1911, migrants have made up a large component of the Australian population. Historically, the majority of migration has come from Europe, however, there are increasingly more Australians who were born in Asia and other parts of the world. This pattern of migration is evident in the make up of the richly diverse society which has been recorded in the 2011 Census. This diversity can be seen in the variety of languages, religions, ancestries and birthplaces reported by Australians.

So I'll kick off and say my family came from Devon in England in about 1850, since the family farm was not big enough to support the whole family, so the younger brothers and sisters had to rack off and make their fortunes elsewhere.
I was born in Australia, as were my parents and grandparents, so there is no question of me ever having been entitled to citizenship of anywhere else. So, I guess, if I were ever silly enough to want to run for parliament, I should be fine and could never be accused of divided loyalties.
So, anyone else like to share?

Considering that Christopher Mendoça was the first white man to discover Australia in 1522 before the dutch or any other white man does that mean im still a dual citizen?

Dual British/Aussie here.... been here 96% of my life though.... so home is definitely Australia.
Both my kids were born here - but due to my country of birth, we've been able to get them dual nationality as well. Like me, they are very definitely Aussies - but they have found having a pommy passport too is very handy when backpacking Europe.... at least for a little longer anyway

Born and raised in WA.. Still here and not going anywhere...
Similar to Mick, my grandparents are from Devon and moved here in 1924...
Grandfather was a farmer and war veteran, grandmother was from a class family(snobs, thats why she was happy to leave for aust) and a war nurse(thats how they met in 1918)...
I dont think I have any entitlement to British citizenship, but then why would I, rather fix our back yard up than move on...
I dont see any issue with duel citizenship, but if you come to Australia to be an aussie, then be one first...
A passport is just a book that allows you to travel overseas, handy if you can carry two...
Only issue I would have is if you break the law here then flee, by having Aussie citizenship you should be able to be dragged home by your short and curlies..
Another duel here.
Born Glasgow Scotland, came to Australia in 1972, aussie citizen in 1984 and 24 years service in the millitary. And no matter how far and wide I roam Australia is definatley home.
