Had to happen. First all electric 4X4.

A long way to go, looks remarkably like a series 1. From Callinan 4X4

    200-320km range.
    7-12 hours to recharge.
They need to improve those numbers.

Self defeating though if recharging is with electricity from dirty sources, eg, coal fired power stations, or as the article states, diesel powered generators at remote places like Mt Dare.

Forget about "self -defeating" , and any green reasons thats all crap. The whole global warming thing has been debunked anyway.

How about this , at least 50% of vehicles in the world - probably more like 80% or higher are commute vehicles that do no more than 60 - 150km daily . well within the performance envelope any currently available EV.

If 50% both those vehicles were EV , the worlds dependency on Middle East Oil no longer exists. I'd say thats going to solve a few of the worlds problems when the Islamic States lose the lions share of their funding.

Im no greenie , the first thing I did to my new Iveco 4x4 was to remove the EGR & DPF , but I'm a big fan of Electric Vehicles. nothing to do with emissions , though Im going to love driving the Series without the bloody exhaust fumes being drawn back into the cabin when the Canvas is rolled up !

    Hi Pat, Im using 45 x CALB CA (Chinese aviation) 180Ah 3.2 v LiFePo4 cells , for a 144v system .

Motor is HPEVS 3 Phase AC 88hp motor (weighs 56kg) with a Curtiss VFD controller .
Curtis 1239e-8521 HPEVS AC-51 Brushless AC Motor Kit - 144 Volt, EV West - Electric Vehicle Parts, Components, EVSE Charging Stations, Electric Car Conversion Kits

The Motor & batteries together weigh about 20kg less than the original Engine, (full) fuel tanks , radiator & exhaust. Engineer is happy with that .

Top speed will be depending of how tightly I can hold on, the motor max rpm is 10,000 in bursts sustained recomended speed is 5000 RPM , Max torque at zero rpm theoretically never need to take it out of top gear. Anticipated range about 100km , I only use the vehicle locally so more than enough.

12V Ceramic heater elements will fit nicely inside original Smith heater , Working demister is required for RWC due to ADR's. It is better (more efficient) to use Heater elements at system power 144V, but I could not find any to fit inside the existing heater, !2V elements will draw a heap of current but only needed for RWC or on the one or two frosty mornings we get here each year.

Drive to the camp site , recharge, drive on the next day. A nice casual pace. Works for me.

Curious as to how you will recharge it at a camp site! Won't be that many charging stations around
