Never heard of UNS - UNC and UNF, yes.
Just Googled it and there are differing opinions on what Unified Special really is. See also https://www.threadcheck.com/technica...ad-systems.pdf
I though I would pitch this one to all those budding engineers out there.U.N.S that will screw with your mind for a couple seconds. As the company that I work for is American what we sell has mostly U.N threads. All the OME parts from the states is U.N . U.N.S is not a common regular thread we use. Apparently it has been a couple of years or more since the parts needing U.N.S threads have been made. I wish that in the time from the last use of this thread and till now they had brought a new tap. Is a good size tap and has been well used.

Where's Brian Hjelm? I'm sure he would know.

Someone upset Brian. A sad loss, he is a very knowledgeable man.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
They can be sharpened by grinding along the flutes to give a new sharp edge. I've made taps for the odd job that way from grade 8 bolts.
See, for example: Sharpening a Tap by James D. Thompson

From what I know of U.N threads U.N.S is any thread that is finer than the corresponding U.N.F thread. The tap is a 1" 14 t.p.i , the 1" U.N.F thread is 12 t.p.i . Our thread chart only lists the 1" U.N.S thread. U.N.S is used where maximum strength is required. I have sharpened taps along the flute. But you do need a decent grinder and the right stone, also a steady hand is a good thing. Best is a tool and cutter grinder.

This thread chart lists 4 different threads for 1" UNS.
