People going thru your recycle bin

    Gday All,

I have noticed a trend starting to happen in our area of people going thru the recycle bins when they are put out on the verge for emptying. I did ring the council about it a month or so ago , but unless they are coming on to your property they don't want to know about it.

Not really sure if its something I am totally against , or , if its a good luck to them if that's what they are prepared to do to try and get some $$$. I know the BOSS not impressed with seeing it.

Is this something others are seeing or is it just a trend around here.

    Cheers Ean

    Only in Darwin, Ean!
Could they be looking for ID information?
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

I have only seen then grabbing out bottles and cans but stranger things have happened Ian.

I don't know much about the cash in of cans and bottles but if they are paying in cash then it could be a good earn on top of welfare.

We are in the inner suburbs of Sydney and get basically 2 types of these people.
Mainly they are people who are doing it tough and have their life in an old pram or shopping trolley. These guys i will at times take out some 2 min noodles, fruit or cans of soup etc. Even though there is free food handouts some like to be a bit more independant.
Then there are the drug dudes who are more likely to be looking for discarded bank information etc . Basically dont have anything in there these guys can use.

I think Ian is on the money with that one. It's a good idea to shred or tare up documents that have information such as identity bank details etc, when you see these people at work.

I much prefer that people go through what I throw out rather than jumping my fence and pinching it.
Good luck to them at least they are not sitting on their bums and are trying to make or save a few quid.

I wonder if large hairy rubber spiders are considered recyclable?

Or just stick it to the inside of the lid.

Most of my cohort drop off our aluminium cans to the local Junior Rugby league club. It's a good little earner for them. And incentive for us .

It is a bit concerning to think that there are citizens who feel the need to do that.
I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food
