Auto Association Roadside Service - Car vs Individual Coverage

There was some discussion the topic a while back but a Forum search and a Google search drew a blank.

The NRMA provides various levels of roadside service but coverage is provided to a particular vehicle not the individual. This means that if you have more than one vehicle you have to take out coverage for each individual vehicle making things expensive.

The Royal Auto Association of SA (RAASA) offers roadside service but it is provided to the individual rather than a car so whatever car is being driven by the member is covered - for me and my vehicles this is very cost effective. For families where vehicles have different drivers then the NRMA system may be best - there are pros and cons but for me roadside service that covers me works best.

I am only looking at base coverage at the moment and while the RAASA will cover residents of other states their base coverage is pretty ordinary compared to the base coverage of the NRMA Eg, only 4 call outs a years vs unlimited; 10km tow vs 20km tow etc. The RAASA have a more expensive intermediate cover that is equivalent of the NRMA base coverage.

So first question - what other Auto Associations around Aust also provide coverage for individuals like the RAASA does? Do these Associations provide memberships to outsiders (note this is different to providing roadside service when interstate as they all do this).

I just want to limit this to base roadside service - all Associations provide various levels of cover but at this stage I am just interested in those that provide coverage for individuals rather than a vehicle, who are not residents of the relevant state.

    Thanks

I get Land Rover Assist free every year with my annual dealer service...

Helps make the service worthwhile as the additional cover given free for the year is inclusive and not another expense!

RACQ provide coverage (known as "ultimate") for the individual no matter what (registered) car is being driven. It covers you when you are outside the state but not sure if it covers you if you live interstate. It is also is a premium cover and not the base cover you were asking about.

Hi there I can only speak for Victoria but the RACV have three levels of cover basic roadside extra care and totalcare basic roadside only covers the one vehicle xtracare covers the driver but with limited towing distances and benefits but totalcare covers the driver + 1 extra vehicle so you can have two cars one the driver is covered for any car and the nominated car which is only on basic roadside and it depends on whether you are a city dweller or country personally if you live outside the metropolitan area totalcare in Victoria is the only one to have due to towing restrictions on the lower memberships and I would also advise to be very careful of any roadside assistance offered by insurance companies or some of the car manufacturers due to very limited coverage in the country
    Thanks Roland

I just blew my free RACQ assist provided by Ford because I serviced my vehicle at a local garage...a Walkinshaw centre , not that the name had any influence.....and had all fluids changed to Motul , which Ford don't really approve of , but a special Motul oil in my gearbox gives me warranty.....which Ford won't do with their recommended lubricants.
    Btw, same engine/transmission/diffs as defenders.
Seriously the car feels better...smoother .... on the Motul products.
So now I have no roadside assist, which I've had for donkeys years because of previous maintenance and sales agreements.
Couldn't care less to be honest.
I'm a bit concerned with how large RACQ has become actually with over 1,000, 000 people on their books, influential editorial content etc.

Thanks for all the comments - gives me something to lobby the NRMA on.

    Cheers
