Im probably about to offend a heap of people here but.........
Australia day to me has become nothing more than a massive ****-up for bogans.
Not sure what all the fuss is about. It's just a music chart and it's been held on different days in the past, including New Year's Day and in March.

Why don’t we rename Australia Day - tree huggers day, and hopefully that will keep everyone happy... Then again - probably not...![]()

Exactly hence why they are trying to distance themselves from the debate.....triple j is being dragged into the debate as others won’t deal with present issues/concerns.
Oh it’s not just any music chart...it’s the hottest 100 solely decided by those who vote.
On another note......The moving of the date was started by a petition.....it’s good to see a robust process used in response to the petition which is more than can be said about other petitions presented to authorities.
Australia Day has become a political issue, so moving away from that controversy sounds logical to me. Keep the music away from the politics.
Since this is inevitably going to be a thread about Australia Day and not the Hottest 100, I want to add my 2c.
We are one of only a few countries that have our national day celebrating colonization. Most other countries have their national days on a day that commemorates independence or some sort of unification, monarch's birthday or saint's day. What we are effectively celebrating on 26th January is an English event! I'm not sure why all the republicans haven't been hopping on the "move Australia Day" bandwagon actually.
January 1st has always made entirely more sense since that is the anniversary of Federation. But then I guess people don't want to double up on a potential holiday and we would probably be too hung over for it to work.
As for Triple J - I don't care when the hottest 100 is and that's the whole point. They had a survey and 60% actively wanted it moved from Australia Day. One can only speculate as to how many other listeners (like myself) don't care either way, but the upshot is only a minority of listeners actually wanted it to stay there. If you're not a listener then your opinion is irrelevant.
Was kinda hoping Australia Day wouldn’t bog down the thread........
I'm fed up with PC... rant over
