Fusion/Mondeo production to cease
Ford has announced that the Fusion is to no longer be built in the USA. They will move production of the current model to China however it will not be exported from there.
For many years Mondeo sales in Europe have also been in a constant slide as well. Not hard to obtain £5k off list price from the dealer.
As this car is designed in the USA production in Europe can be expected to end with the current model cycle. As the current Mondeo was released in Europe about 2 years after the USA release the car is not quite as ‘old’ here and may continue after USA ceases production. Without USA product support though there will be no significant updates in future.
Not really a Ford centric issue though all cars in this segment are not selling well. VW was even making noises about ending Passat production. Will the move by Ford be the start of a cascade of models in this segment ending from other manufacturers as well?
