Best Summer Bush Camp to avoid the crowds

We're looking for a getaway camp in Victoria in mid January...

Prefer a quiet spot away from crowds, but we've picked the worst time of year of course! LOL
    We have a Defender, a dog and a tent/swags.
Any suggestions would be much appreciated...

Cheers and happy holidays to all.

Head over the border to SA and the Coorong National Park north of Kingston. Possibly the Canunda National Park near Millicent too. Plenty of almost empty beaches and monster sand hills for relaxing scenery. Towns for shopping and showers not very far away.

Yeah, get off the tracks where cars can get to as mentioned. I avoid camping in Jan usually as it can be a bit of a pain to find somewhere quiet but there are places.

Up in the Sunset National Park there’s enough room for everyone, and although there would be a reasonable amount of vehicles on the main tracks it isn’t hard to find a spot a 100 metres from a track where no one would bump into you.

Do these national parks allow a dog? I'm not trying to be a smartarse , just wouldn't mind a big lap in a couple of years time ( no caravan and a lot of off road )and everywhere over this side is closed to these four legged fang bearing destroyer of everything canines (at least that's what were led to believe ) , my own best mate isn't true to type then , she doesn't let me out of her sight and as I live rural ,surrounded by all wildlife she has never bothered chasing anything other than foxes , there should be a test for responsible owners to obtain a permit . I note that all sorts of yobs seem to get in OK leaving their rubbish , bottles, cans .

Coorong National Park doesn't allow dogs except on the beach between high and low water marks. More info in dogs in SA parks:

Ah - no. No dogs in and National Park - State Parks are fine for fur babies.

Here’s a full list of Vic State and National parks with links to each - you may be able to find something here.

We go out to Wombat and Lerderderg State Parks camping with our dogs, but it is hardly picturesque and will be filled with yobbos at the moment. It’s close so it’s an easy weekend in the bush for us.

Speaking of Lederberg and yobbos Gav, there was an article in Westprints Friday Five regarding the chopping down of a number of mature eucalypts recently. This sort of thing really gets my goat.

Although not in Vic, but only just over the border, we were able to have our dog on a lead at Mathoura on the Edwards River. It’s in Nat Park. It seems the Rangers up that way are a lot more reasonable in these circumstances. So much so, the sign at the entrance says this info. To put it mildly, we were quite impressed.
