Picture a Toyota Kluger badly bogged on a beach.
After a considerable time a mate comes to his assistance and joins two snatch straps to snatch him out.
He's obviously going to take one hell of a run to get plenty of pull on the strap, unfortunately it looks as if there is a non rated shackle attaching the strap to the tow bar, using the trailer safety chain attachment point.
:x
The straps are joined with a 1/2" socket bar![]()
as you are probably guessing the strap broke and the socket bar was catapulted into the back of the cruiser.
Luckily no one was injured (or worse) but considerable damage to both vehicles
I'd say there is a substantial force involved to leave the imprint of the knurling on the handle like this.
The guy had obviously let his tyres down a bit tooo far![]()
This is where the vehicle was bogged, it had been here all night and its now LOW tide.
The other end of the strap gave the front of the Kluger a workout as well but given it had been below the high water mark for one tide its probably academic (by the way the Kluger was only a few weeks old).
No involvement on my part photos from a mate who was an observer with no involvement either.

as the toyota saying goes BUGGER !
not nice for a couple of near new cars but experience goes along way
they must have known a lot about alittle and little about a lot![]()
Ouch!
My sympathies to the poor bloke(s), bit of inexperience there that ended up costing them a lot
I see people snatching with their snatch-straps, however when I was in the LROC Brisbane we were taught only to snatch as a last resort. Instead try to slow steady pull (sometimes with a bit more force as you go on) and not to snatch because of the potential of exactly what happened above and the excessive forces that are suddenly being applied to all sorts of components :?
Having said that snatching like that above was probably going to be the only way to get that bloke out - oh that and a shovel
The upside is that the socket bar didn't go through the rear window, the driver's head and the front window
Ballistic 8O
And I wonder about the front recovery point on the Kluger as **** could have happened in obverse.
