Now at Taupo, not much mud here. However, you wouldn’t believe how the lake water is crystal clear. I’ve never seen anything like it, it is simply mind-boggling, I’d like to snorkel in it.

    yeah , Ive seen it.

doesnt it have some hot vents?

there was an info board telling you all about it near one of the cafes...

just Wikied it, yes there are a number of geothermal vents around the lake and the lakes water level is artificially maintained by their Hydroelectricity plants.....or it floods.

If you're still in the Taupo area Ron, have a look at Huka Falls on the Waikato River (the outlet of Lake Taupo. If you're lucky you might see some insane kayakers shooting the falls.

Spinifex Motel in Derby. It's as exciting as it sounds, and as much as I like to rag on Derby, it's safer than Broome at the moment.

We stopped at Huka Falls on the way to Taupo. Currently in Auckland, flying home tomorrow. Stopped at Warkworth today for lunch. Warkworth is the home of the satellite comms station I used to communicate with when I worked in that field. Now it’s a radio telescope.

It’s also where the TV series Brokenwood Mysteries is set and as the town of Weld in the TV series 800 Words.
