Welp
i started the wheels rolling to get setup with hearing aids today.
i have fairly severe industrial deafness and have done so for 30+ years
the little suckers arent cheap!
lots of options out there but i look like going with Costco's setup ,which several mates and few customers are using.
long wait, 3 months plus
not sure i am looking forward to hearing all those noises in the defender i am blissfully unaware of at presenttho it has to b said.

If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.
A mate of mine used the Costco ones..... as far as I am aware he was really happy with them.

Could be worse. My father in law has cochlear implants because polio wrecked most of his hearing as a child. To get the cochlear implants they had cut off 100% of his natural hearing. Without the cochlear implants he is now totally 100% deaf - nothing at all.
He says all he can hear is his own brain, which is quite noisy - lots of gurgling and static.

Best thing I ever did. It wasn't fair to my family, nor was it fair to me. I used to silently curse my dad when he refused to do anything about his deafness, and then found I was doing the same thing, isolating myself. Jan used to have to speak loudly to be heard, and I was shouting because I could not hear myself. It all turned around when I got my aids.
I can't speak for the Costco ones. I got a sub because of my carer's pension. You get basic aids for free, but I paid about the same as the Costco ones and got a higher level.
One thing I got, which is worth it's weight in bright shiny stuff, is a thing I hang around my neck that pairs with my aids so I can control the volume etc. That is not so much, but it also pairs with my phone, so I can listen to music or books etc., but even better functions as a handsfree. I sure get some strange looks in the supermarket when I use that. Dunno if the Costco ones offer that, but I'd be surprised if they didn't. There is also a neat device that hooks up to the TV so I don't deafen the rest of the house trying to hear.
Go for it, Dave.

My particular ones won't pair directly with my phone, there has to be the third party thing around my neck. I believe the more expensive ones will. But, I can still control volume and balance with my phone app. There is even an app to help control tinnitus, but I have not used it. My brand is Phonak. Oh, and i can mute them when I'm in the carpetless D1.
I had serious trouble with the over the ear type that I first had, as I sweat heavily from my head. The aids themselves are waterproof, but the battery compartment is not, and the aids would turn off. This was really problematic in Thailand in April! I now have in the ear type aids, which are nowhere near as good or comfortable. When I can afford them I'll go back to the other type, but rechargeable, to do away with the battery door.
