I had lost my brief for 3 months , and whilst the car was off the road, only just recently purchased (only allowed to drive the milk truck for work) I swapped out the 6 for an auto V8. It came out of a ZB Fairlane which had been worked, and I got the full interior from a ZD Fairlane except the dash, so really, just the seats .

When I came back onto the road, mates,,, who had visited me with the car being worked on right at the front door of the house,,, couldn't work out why I now went sooo fast,,, Damn that was a cool car,, I miss it probably more than the XA GT I had.

Old school Fords,,, is there really anything better,,,, I think not.
That takes me back Marcus, my first car was an XT although it was an auto, my mates all hated it cos it was way quicker than their twin-carb 186s. Second car was an XT GT. How I survived being an 18yo P-plater in that thing I'll never know. Wish I still had it though.

I had a metallic gold, XT Fairmont wagon fitted with a Cruisomatic behind the Windsor. That would have been impressive specs when new.

I learnt to drive in a 1980 ZJ Fairlane, said to be 1 of 4 - 351cu with a mild cam in it... Apparently 4 special order Fairlanes made for the company directors.

Dad took me out on a dirt road, and when it over-steered (corrugations and rear wheel drive V8 fun) he said: "You'll be fine as a driver - you steered into the skid instead of panicking"

    I just remember having fun..

I had an XT Falcon ute in the eighties, but I worked it to death. Silly Billy I was fond of it too.
    Cheers, Billy.

A couple of weeks ago I took a ride in a mates XA GT. It has some go and loses traction without too much effort.
