    old victa 2strokes

    Hi Guys,

I have an old victa mower ... that just does't die. The only thing I've done to it in probably 20years is change its blades.... Over the last few years its developed a problem where it would scream its guts out.... to the point now it always revving it's guts out, no matter how low I run the throttle.

These mowers are brilliant, they cut anything ... I ordered in a carby kit for it. I found the diaphragm cover is broken ( I taped it up for now). The centre rubber bit and pipe were missing from the decompression valves (I fixed it with a sparkplug) ... Its still revving its guts out. I put the carby kit in with new diaphragm, the plastic inlet tube was loose and the rubber Orings boths ends like concrete.

There has still got to be a vacuum leak somewhere though ??

I whipped the top off ... Wow .. only 6 screws, 3minutes work and your looking at the crank...

Should there be an Oring here somehwere ? maybe its turned to concrette and been sucked through the motor. And look at that, I always thought the professional series power torque engines were full crank!

I guess its earned a service after the million hours of work its done.

to give an idea of the work this thing has done ... check out the tyre wear .... it was originally a commercial council mower given the engraving in it (I feel sorry for the poor bastard that pushed this heavy thing all day).

Does anyone know where I can buy parts for the old victas these day? I'm not even sure if you can get super 600 wheels any longer. I'll definanately need a diaphragm cover ( I'm going to hunt around for an old victa 2stroke at the tip shop etc... for the carby and de-compressor parts).

You may be surprised at what you can get from a dealer. Not Victa, but I have had no issues getting parts for a 25yr old Husqvarna rideon and a 30 year old Rover Colt. Although in both cases parts had to be ordered in.

Sticking or missing governor? It's been 40 years since I last had a Victa, not missing it.

    Thanks guys

after pulling it apart. it appears the carby diaphragm controls the governer. This is new. I think there has to be an air leak somewhere. I'm going to hit google and see if I can find an exploded parts diagram to see if there should be an Oring in the top.

Victa 2strokes are the gruntiest mower made... bloody brilliant! I wouldn't be without it. It does everywhere the tractor and ride on can't get (they are great for edging around trees and under decks etc... the low profile deck fits under them, the deck also has a cuttout for edging (I've had it eat my cloths before ... that''s how close I'm come to bein g grabbed by the blades

I had a even earlier Victa 600 was a imperial version. That I found you could not get parts for any more. Great motor when you got the mongrel to run and the noise it produced would have been similar to a jet. So a Miller falls engine was fitted and that was a good cheap motor. Self governing which took some getting used to. Ran oh so quiet, you could talk next to it and when you started cutting it would auto increase the revs, but was still a quiet motor. So that would be a option. I did have to make a adapter plate that the motor bolted to and then picked up the the slide tension slots in the mower. Dead simple to do. I think the plate was about 10mm from memory.

No way .... I would never get rid of the mighty 2stroke !!!! That thing has serious balls. It will cut ANYTHING. Every 4stroke I've ever used just dies in the arse and frustrates you to tears at the first sign of long grass. The 2strokes just open the governors and scream.... If the grass is so long you can't push the mower onto it ... you just pivot over that big back wheels and drop the deck down onto the grass. Like I said ... cut anything. I'd never, ever replace that incredibly noisy, thirsty .... but amazingly grunty little 2stroke ... no way.

You can still buy these mowers new. I"ve looked, and looked.... there is no option that allows for a proper 2stroke. So I'm simply not interested. Not only are the 4strokes big and heavy .... they would be too gutless for such a legendary mower

they might not be a bargain. But you'd never wear it out in your lifetime

I just found a big Oring on the shed floor ... so that answers the question of if it should have an Oring in the top of the motor!

    TALKING FROM EXPERENCE

The plastic carby from memory has two springs one each side of the rubber diaphragm, one is longer than the other and when reassembling to the novice its easy to put in wrong, the long one goes in the end with the lesser space also check the wear on the governor linkages.
