Of course the engine size in the new Ranger is going down to a 2 litre twin turbo engine. Good or bad - who knows.

I’ve currently done 90,000Km in a Jan 2016 2.2 auto Hi-Rider (2wd) double cab, company supplied. Only normal servicing, brakes and tyres. The only issue has been random flat batteries, my feeling is it is not shutting down its electronics randomly. Ford say there is no problems, at least five other company ones are having the same issue...

The 2.2 matched with the auto box is sluggish and very laggy especially from standstill.

    Would I buy one, no.

My 2.2 Ranger single cab/chassis 4x4 manual. What can I say about it? Not much , its done two desert trips , about to do its third. Yes the g'box is notchy ....but change gears just a little slower its ok...its the same box as the Defender, same engine as well. Dynamically its good, the little engine can break out the back tyres easily and chirp them into the next two changes if you want to. Offroad it does everything its asked to do, it gets good fuel consumption, can honestly pull a good load. 40k on the dial now and my overall score on it is boring, ho-hum.

But its honest, does most things its asked to do satisfactorily. Its the Camry of 4wd utes.

Would I buy another one? Nope. Its mundane.

Kelvo, there is an issue with electronic something not shutting down , therefore reducing battery life perceptibly.
Mine was switched off in the ecu by Ford because they were originally prepping my ute to be a dealership service/spare parts/smoko runaround and know about it. Your dealer can do it for you simply.
I can't for the life of me remember what it was.
You could search it out in the Ranger Forum though

That’s what I was about to suggest. Have you looked at the V6 Amarok?

I've only had a very short drive in one, my old boss bought one to replace a 2l version but it goes like the proverbial off a shovel and the auto is very impressive, and this coming from a confirmed manual operator.
The interior feels nicer than the BT, but we are comparing totally different specs/trim levels too.

He also bought my old Deefer, guess which he prefers to drive, particularly öff road....

Had a ride in Son-in-laws new ROK last week. Plenty of go from the V6, but I wasn't overly impressed with the cab. I find very little difference in appointments between the dual-cabs on the market ATM. All pretty much clones of each other.

A friend is the service manager at a Ford dealership, and he reckons that the most common single fault on the cars that come in for work is the Auto box in the Ranger.
He said the earlier ZF built ones never had issues, only the later Ford built boxes.

We have 4 3.0 litre Rangers, 1 of which is auto. The auto has had (and still does) gremlins. Which year/s were ZFs?
