    Glow Worm Tunnel - Newnes

    Hi Folks,

Trying to plan a quick day trip with the family. Home to Lithgow is two hours. Lithgow to the Glow Worm tunnel comes up as 5 hours????

All the info on the tunnel is that the walk would be ideal for my kids ages (2yrs-9yrs), but it's a bit vague on how long to get to the start of the walk in.

    Anyone advice?

I'm guessing your directions take you to Newnes campground and then the 10km walk up to the tunnel.

When you come out from Sydney take Bells Line of Rd via Richmond. Follow this until you reach the ZigZag railway.

From here see the link below

Turn into the ZigZag railway, and then turn right, follow the railway line a very short distance and then cross over the railway line.

Follow this track until you reach the end and it will intersect the Glow worm tunnel Rd. Turn Right here.

CSA past the Bungleboori picnic/camp ground and keep following this road a long way until you reach the Glow worm tunnel carpark at the end if I recall correctly. Don't turn off the road.

Check this link carefully for forks!!!!!

    Google Maps

Advice, Your shoes will get wet, take a torch.

    Hi,
    Gum boots!

Take a tripod to get some interesting long exposure photos.
We went in from the Lithgo end, following the old railway in parts and drove through a tunnel on the way in.
From the roads end, (where we camped), it was a short walk to the glow worm tunnel.

    Cheers

    What Slunnie said.

And it takes less than an hour to get from the Zig Zag to the Tunnel car park. Make sure once you walk through the tunnel you follow the old railway out to the escarpment for some great views over the Wolgan Valley. Seeing the glow worms can be a challenge with kids as the best way to see them is with the lights out and total silence, but a great experience for them.

    Cheers,
    Jon
