Ah yes, the tune for that song would be Sir Mixalot's 'baby got back' or should that be 'baby got brakes'....
First line would be - "I love big brakes, and I cannot lie'
Early 1990's gold....
The Isuzu 110. Solid and as dependable as a rock, coming soon with auto box😊
The Range Rover L322 4.4.TTDV8 ....probably won't bother with the remap..😈

Life is just a series of obstacles preventing you from taking a nap.
So do I (love big brakes).
Makes me laugh when I see modified cars, of various descriptions, with possible mega engines, & huge, sometimes 20"+ wheels,.........with standard brakes behind them,....looks like "dinky toy" brakes.
If We're buying a car & there is a big brake option, we'll invariably go for that,..love to keep the calipers etc & inner rims clean too,...which sometimes takes much longer than cleaning the rest of the car!
Pickles.
I lost brakes on the old Toowoomba Range in a Commer Knocker about 1961-62. This truck had vacuum/hydraulic brakes and a vacuum hose came adrift. The brakes were poor at the best of times. Talk about good for the heart action. I got it pulled up in Withcott and sat and shook for some time.
The guy doing 225 in a 90 zone was a bit over the top. Why didn't he go out into the wheat belt/light lands where there are few people and lots of straight roads. I have never had much time or respect for arbitrary speed limits set by politicians, bureaucrats, and police without consideration to the prevailing circumstances. Yes, there are places and times that need speed limits but much of this country could be "derestricted" as many NSW highways were until late 60's. I think it was 1970 when the speed limit signs appeared on the Putty Road. For a while I ferried used cars bought at auction in Sydney up the New England Highway to Brisbane. Cars were cheaper in Sydney. Now think of the cars, brakes, tyres of the time and the narrow twistier steeper road then. Our benchmark was 12 hours Burwood to Fortitude Valley and this was achievable. Nowadays there are speed limits and cameras, cameras, cameras. It is not a bad effort to do the same trip in 12 hours today even with the exponential improvements in cars and the highway. My best time was 8 3/4 hours in a 1968 Camaro with a high performance 327 option. Auto and drum brakes!!!! Average speed 75 mph. It sat comfortably on an indicated 120 mph. I think if one was caught at this today the driver would be gaoled.

Am kinda missing the the significance of the event described.... a HDT tuned commodore sitting on 100 mph for an hour - and thats remarkable.... how?
Did 160km/h (speed limiter set at that) for about 45min straight on the NorthSouth highway in the state of Johor, Malaysia. On a drive home to Kuala Lumpur from Singapore - in my 2013 Defender dual cab. It wasn't at all remarkable, it was fairly relaxed, could have gone longer but I was on the coat tails of a police escort and the royal entourage all pulled over for fuel and I wanted pics...

"When I was younger, back in the days of unrestricted speed limits, I safely drove at ridiculously high speeds by today's standards in cars that were far worse in terms of steering and braking. I'm still alive, see, it was perfectly safe. We should be allowed to drive faster now." - so say people who are still alive now. No one who died back in those days is saying anything, 'cause they died.
Yep, I did some dumb fast* driving in my youth in a Series 2 Land Rover. Makes me break out in a cold sweat now when I think back to how close to the edge I must've been-- all too often with passengers in the car. I've become a lot slower as I've aged I think because I have a better imagination regarding what could go very, very, very wrong.
* Not fast compared to anything else on the road, but was pushing the Landy as hard as I could on twisty roads with significant drops off the side.
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
