Gday All,
Putting a call out to anybody in Melbourne more specifically Sunshine West.
I have recently purchased a Isuzu 4JB1 engine and gearbox from Tassie, I organised a freight forwarding company to ship to Brisbane via Melbourne. The guy I bought it from made a rubbish attempt at packing the items and also left the oil in it. Subsequently the engine has tipped over, broken the pallet and started leaking oil. The freight company in Melbourne were going to clean and repackage it for a fee which I paid. Today they contact me saying they won’t clean it and have refunded the fee. The engine/gearbox is now sitting in their yard in Melbourne with them refusing to freight it in its current condition.
So I’m stuck between a rock and a hard place. I am wondering if there is anyone in the area that would be in a position to repackage the item and drain oil/clean, so it can continue its journey to Brisbane. I am willing to reimburse for time and consumables. Or if anybody has any ideas as to how to handle the situation.

Yeah they would be able to fork it onto a vehicle, might leak a little, but I don’t think it is major. I’ll be giving them a call in the morning to check this is ok. The freight forwarding company are trying to find someone that will ship it as is, but don’t think it will happen.
I was told by them that the driver in Tassie should never have accepted the item the way it was packaged, but he accepted it anyway. Would have been easy to get old mate to package it correctly at the pickup location.

For a one off I'd get a used tyre with the same size hole (approx) as the drop part of the sump and place it on a good pallet with the engine sitting in it. Put a block of wood under each end of the engine and nailed to the pallet to stop it see sawing. Go to Supacheap/Repco etc and buy a cheap set of 4 ratchet staps. One over the timing cover and through the pallet, one over the flywheel cover and two over the top of the engine with padding of some sort to stop chafing damage if necessary and you're good to go

Thanks for the offers of help.
I spoke to the freight company again today, they said they will try and send it up on the spill containment pallet which they currently have it sitting on in their yard. They just have to ship one down from their Brisbane depot first to replace it.
I’ll keep you updated, in case they change their mind
