    1st time all over again?

Plasma donation today. I was given a 1st time sticker

About 100+ full blood in NSW, WA and Vic now and I get a very first one all over again

I was looking for another First time video but it was a bit explicit

I used to give blood regularly in Armidale, in Narrabri and in Yass. However giving blood in Tuross seems to be impossible. When I asked a doctor about 15 years ago about mobile units that might visit, he explained why that didn't happen. I think it had something to do with security.

As I am about to move to a more heavily populated area, I was hoping that I might be able to recommence donations.

Imagine my disappointment when a friend told me that you can't give blood after the age of 75.

However a close look at the Red Cross website showed that you can't be a first time donor after 75. If you have previously given blood, you can be any age.

Now I just have to hope that there is still some record of my donations between about 1965 and 2002 so that I am not regarded as a first time donor. I doubt that I can still find my donor's card.

My wife actually teared up when I told her she can now donate. One of my good friends was a Nurse in the UK when the BSE/CJD really hit hard, and given the stories she told I can understand why the original ban was in place. I can also see that screening technology has improved, and have seen the incredible need for blood products, so I'm more than happy for the ban to be lifted.

I still can't donate because they have an aversion to those that pass out and fit when poked with a hollow tube, but remain eternally grateful for those than can and do.

Unfortunately I can tend to fit while I'm out, so it's not just a "peaceful snooze".

First donation for the road trip…..

    Darwin today giving some plasma.

Interesting point is they are the only centre in Australia that can process whole blood…..which supports all of Northern Territory and Kununurra as required

Plasma is frozen on site and sent south for processing therefore no clinical donations up here.

Only eight chairs…..and staff are super friendly.

Oh and the local mens shed donated some drink bottle stands……

Been awhile between donations…..last donation was Darwin

Rolled into Perth, first on the agenda was dropping into the Morley Centre.

Wife’s first donation as well, now that she is no longer a mad cow.
