Thread: Who else donates....whole blood, plasma or platelets

Lots happening in the donation centre this morning.

4 first timers were getting there veins checked in the waiting area……. Sadly two were not hydrated enough I’m guessing they were walk ins and didn’t get the prep messages. Hopefully they will be back better hydrated.

Another guy got 1/2 way through his plasma and there was a hiccup…..not sure the reason but he needs a visit to his doctor….. he left a little confused. Hopefully he’s back……

The nurse said they are a little short on numbers.

14 chairs, 2 doing plasma and 3 doing whole blood.

I’ll hopefully get 2 more here…..than we’ll donate during our travels.

Saw on the news the other day that medical authorities have or are considering removing the restrictions on people who lived in the UK from the 80s to giving blood. This was these people (like me) supposedly could have been exposed to Mad Cow disease so could not give blood - was a knee jerk reaction with no evidence to support the perceived issue that a simple blood test could have resolved. As a result many donations that would have happened did not.

I used to give blood on a regular basis but lived in the UK in 1983 and never given blood again.

The centers have been talking about it for a couple of years, they seem a bit more confidant off late that there might be a change.

#81 today……Plasma was the plan however……..

O+ is in short supply and the centre I attend are asking all O+ Plasma donors to consider switching to whole blood 🩸 today so that stocks can be boosted.

I element year ls ago they we asking the same, and I recall one donor not wanting to change from his plasma appointment…..maybe he had good reasons.

Whole blood donation last week- It takes about 10% of my haemoglobin. I have not been able to Donate for several months due to the silly old bugger Covid Vax trial I was in last year. The nice staff after the donation mentioned no vigorous exercise Guess who rode my bike 12 km to give blood The nurse telling me after the donation looked at my bike clothes and bike helmut

I rode home with no issues.

I did a marathon on Sunday 6 days later. For the first time ever at 21km 1/2 marathon point I really wanted to stop. That Silly old bugger bit is true? I refused and kept going to 42.2 km. I am Not kidding it was tougher than normal. It was my 21st and before it was over I think it was my LAST time ever.

Not scheduling blood donations before any more marathons. Moving to plasma in a few weeks any way. Apparently the NSW QLD floods has made that as needed as my pre race whole blood. It will be my first Plasma. I will be a virgin again

New donor centre today, kicking back at the Springwood Centre for a Plasma Donation.

My next donation I’ll be Darwin in about six weeks, might be able to squeeze two donations in and around touristy stuff……..than bigger gap til the next which will be Perth.

Had a trainee hook me up today, he did a really good job.

No danger for me getting the blood I took back 2 years ago as well reported

... but if it reduces the PFAS level.... WHERE does it go ? - in the donated blood ? I thought that was the idea, to get the stuff OUT of blood. ?
I'm confused.
