Thread: Simpson Recovery vehicle

I replaced the original hoses on my 98 defender last year as I thought it was a good idea given their age. But a few weeks later one of new hoses sprang a leak. So their are no guarantees that you won't have a problem even if you replace aging parts.

Petrol motors can start pinging as they get over hot. If your petrol motor starts pinging unexpectedly, shut it down immediately. Not sure about more modern engines though, that will modify the timing, etc.

I havent near cooked a diesel yet.

Ironic really, modern vehicles are so reliable no one looks at the temp gauge anymore, yet the sole purpose of the temp gauge is to warn the driver of a reliability issue.

Even if you missed seeing the dash warning or the steam, you would still expect to smell the overheating engine and feel the power fading. They would have driven for sometime between the coolant loss and the engine seizing.

I find it inconceivable that anyone would attempt to cross the Simpson without taking extra care of his or her vehicle. I do feel very sorry for them, but this could have easily been resolved without outside assistance.

Good for the local economy though.

If a radiator hose can't last the warranty period of 100,000 ks, assuming it hasn't been spiked by a stick or the clamp didn't come loose, then it's not fit for purpose and the owner should have a trade practices claim against Toyota, I reckon.

As stated a couple of times previously in this thread the hoses are Not covered by the warranty.

Most radiator hoses last the life of the vehicle, which is often say 250,000km.

Possibly had the windows up, vents closed, and the a/c on recirculate.
