Pulling out Tree stumps with a 4WD OKA

I had a 10 mt tree cut down the other day it has a 10 metre root spread. I am left with the stump to grind away. In conversation with an owner of an OKA he reckons if they had of left some trunk he could have tied a rope around it and dragged out the stump. I immediately called Frogcrap. I had my brother inlaw over who used to operate a Drott and he agrees the root ball would be massive and you would have to excavate around it and cut the roots to budge it. If an OKA could pull it out of the ground then the said OKA would never be able to self recover itself out bush as it would pull out every tree it was attached to when winching.
Pic of remaining stump. My walking stick is 1.2 metres long for scale.

I have heard that the "iceberg" rule of thumb when dealing with trees is, that the amount of branches above ground, equates to the same volume of roots below ground, obviously a lot are small fibrous types, that would break easily, but I'd still like to see an OKA try.

No chance at all an OKA would go close to getting that out.

We pulled heaps of trees down and got rid of the stumps, when i was a kid.

Stump grinding is the go,unless you want to spend hours with a costly machine.

The OKA wouldn't stand a chance, even a Land Rover would struggle.
If you don't like trucks, stop buying stuff.

    Hi,
A friend has just bought what was part of a eucalyptus plantation after harvesting.
The backhoe bucket takes quite a while to dig, cut and persuade each stump to come out.
There is several hundred of them!
    Cheers

Pulled bigger stumps than that with a hand winch! One of the best was made by Trewhalla Foundry - I still have a wallaby jack, by memory it's one of theirs, too.

We only had the S1 in the days we cleared the block,it was bloody useless, except for real small saplings.

The hand winch as someone else said, was the best, tension the stump up and lots of digging and cutting the roots, and more tension, and more cutting, digging.

We must have dug out 100's like that.Bloody good exercise.

But the larger ones needed to be ground,or burnt after they had dried out.
