Thread: Blasted labradors eat anything

There is always a ying to the yang. Our first lab was of all things a fussy eater, all ways chewed every thing well. Any dip put on a biscuit that I gave here was sniffed and tasted before eating. So far Mr Carter our next Lab has not shown any signs of eating any thing odd. Now our staffie cross is amazing, Just inhales food. So much so that we have got a special dog bowl for her which has raised sections to slow her up. One of the dogs that my brother owned ate a ball of wool, which made for some interestingly strung together number twos.

We flew our old lab over when we emigrated from the UK back in 2006. He was an extremely fussy eater. He lived till he was 14 now sadly gone. Our new dog is a lab collie cross mad as a hatter and is also a fussy eater.

Our year old lab (Winston) is also one who will eat anything.

Current favourite item though is his bedding (doesn’t matter what we give him including a bone or chew toy to distract, he has a crack at it) and also a paid of my wellies (every morning we find them back next to him with a little bit more off the top chewed out).

We love him dearly though as he seems to be the reincarnation of a cocker spaniel we had for many years. The cocker too could eat anything - most bizarre was a case of naphthalene flakes. We found him as a puppy foaming at the mouth, thought what the hell us that but and the smell was instantly recognisable. Luckily we got him to the vet fast and charcoal etc did the trick and he lived for another 14 years.

Ha,talking to my brother about that today.

He follows the irresponsible owner and dog home,then goes and gets the item, puts it on or in their letterbox

Must be a Lab thing. Would you believe that If the do dump on a road they treat it as a round a bout until they get a bob cat to clean it up.
I use a broad blade shovel to clean up after our lab. I personally believe that they can malt and crap there own body weight each day. Which is why they have such a appetite.

Don't ask for a photo , we didn't ask for the story

We had two Chesapeake Bay Retrievers over the years. The first would eat anything and one day swallowed a corn cob whole. It passed through the system but probably tickled on the way through. The second Chessie would swallow my son’s socks or, in fact, anything he touched. After a while, we accepted that his socks would never be matched up.
