Our prices here are inflated because our incomes are inflated.

However now our costs are also inflated (power etc).

Obviously some gouge, but comparing a small insignificant market (Australia) to someone like USA or UK is Apples and Oranges.

2018 US min wage what a lot of the work force earns from $7.25 USD ( $9.53 AUD) depending on state. so this reflects in prices of consumer goods, here we would get out of bed for that

Exactly, I’m currently whoring myself out as a Specialist contractor. Converted to Aus $, they work 2 x 37.6 hr weeks for what I make before first Crib. (Yes I’m part of the problem)

Their shops also have turnover, holding large volumes of stock turns over quickly, getting big volume discounts.
To get close to those discounts here a supplier needs to bring in containers of products, which often sit there for a long time before they move.

This cost must be recouped promptly or you go out of business. The ATO wants its portion, Customs theirs...
Staff need wages paid, and can’t wait to sell 1000+ items at narrow margins.

The more we go overseas the worse this problem is going to get...

All imports have a signed declaration attached that states the value so presumably will also now have to state whether GST been collected.

I've been asked by one of my overseas suppliers for my ABN so that the supplier wont need to add GST. I assume that the import declaration will show my ABN and that GST wont be charged because I would be claiming it back if it was charged.

Yes, for a buisness and a car, not for a private sale of a car and not for general second hand goods sold from Joe blogs, but not aure about a buisness selling second hand goods.
